I tried to help my dear friend Eliza Wyatt find someone for
her production in Gloucester, to no availshe ended up
doing it herself. Not as well as it should have been done.
My theory is that all the people with this skill set who
used to devote themselves 40 hours a week to Theatre around
their Day Jobs are now working Real Economy jobs with forced
overtimeor 2nd jobsjust to keep afloat in our
cruel economy. Thespis knows the theatre can't pay them enough
to afford sky high rent and health insurance!
I fear for our beautiful fragile houses of cards.
I'm retired now and able to devote my full time to artbut
art has always lived and grown in the cracks where economic
efficiency fails... the idle rich, the unemployed, students,
children, spouses, kept beauties with patrons... (8/27/04)
